Sebastian James appointed fiscal affairs advisor to Government of Punjab, India
The professor of the practice will advise on fiscal matters on an honorary basis.
Sebastian James, professor of the practice in the Sanford School of Public Policy and faculty affiliate of the Duke Center of International Development, has been appointed to the role of Advisor (fiscal affairs) in the Government of Punjab’s Department of Finance.
On an honorary basis and in his personal capacity, James will advise the government regarding financial resource mobilization, reviewing capital and revenue expenditure and its rationalization, augmenting the state’s finances, and restructuring fiscal debt.
Prior to joining Duke in fall 2023, James worked at the World Bank for more than 15 years as a senior economist, advising several countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe on tax policy design and tax administration. He also held senior roles in tax administration and tax policy at the Indian Revenue Service.
