Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center staff, faculty members named Paul Harris Fellows
Susan Carroll, Thomas Lasater, Suzanne Maman and Sharon Thomas received honors from the Rotary Foundation.
In recognition of their significant contributions to advancing Rotary International’s humanitarian and educational efforts, four Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center staff and faculty members were honored by the Rotary Foundation for their contributions to advancing Rotary’s humanitarian and educational efforts.
Thomas Lasater, program coordinator at the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center; Sharon Thomas, assistant dean for recruitment, admissions and financial aid in the Office of Academic & Student Affairs at the UNC School of Social Work and a Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center advisory board member; and Suzanne Maman, UNC faculty director of the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center and associate dean for global health at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health; were named Paul Harris Fellows during the Center’s 22nd Annual Spring Conference. Named after Rotary’s founder, Paul Harris, the fellowship reflects a deep commitment to peace, service and global understanding.
Additionally, Susan Carroll, managing director of the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center, was named a Paul Harris Fellow +1 in honor of her 20 years of service to the Center.
Jointly managed by the Duke Center for International Development (DCID) and UNC’s Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs, and funded by a grant from the Rotary Foundation, the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center is one of seven Rotary Peace Centers in the world. Each year, the Center prepares Rotary Peace Fellows to have a significant, positive impact on world peace and conflict resolution.
