On Friday Sept. 19, 2014, 21 participants graduated from the Transfer Pricing Program. The participants represented Angola, Bolivia, Fiji, Malawi, Namibia, Tanzania and the United States. Peter Barnes, a Senior Fellow who had spent 22 years as Senior International Tax Counsel with General Electric, directed the week-long program, which provided participants with information to help governments develop sound transfer pricing rules that balance the needs of government and businesses. Three participants were from the private sector.
“Transfer pricing is a must for tax administrations, particularly in Africa, to build capacity,” Khamis Mwalim, a 2011 MIDP-ITP alum, who advises the Tanzanian government on International Taxation and Tax Treaties, said.
Mwalim also commended Barnes’ expertise, “Peter is great in using his on the ground experience.”
