DURHAM — China’s political system might be pushing that country’s economy forward, but like the American system, it’s got any number of built-in flaws that counsel against taking it as a model for other countries.

That was the view of the Duke University political scientists who attended a forum this week to critique a new book by Canadian-born scholar Daniel A.
