Hans-Martin Boehmer has worked in international finance and development over the past twenty years holding positions in private sector, government, and international organizations. He has been a Senior Manager at the World Bank Group’s Independent Evaluation Group. In this capacity, he has introduced significant institutional reforms to strengthen data accountability and transparency. He has also been Chair of a global initiative to strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems in low and middle-income countries (theclearinitiative.org). Other positions within the World Bank Group included head of Corporate Strategy and Integrated Risk Management, where he was also leading the Innovation Marketplace; a grant funding initiative for small scale innovations with potential for transformational impact. On the policy front, he was responsible for working with the World Bank Group’s senior management on the formulation of Strategic Directions and responses to global development challenges. He held a variety of operational, managerial, and corporate positions. His operational experience ranges from reconstruction efforts in Lebanon, to debt relief for Burkina Faso, and country management of the World Bank’s program in Russia. From 2006 to 2008, he was seconded to the UK Department for International Development to lead the policy work in the areas of education, health, and neglected diseases. He holds a Ph.D. with Distinction in Economics from Georgetown University and an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Bonn.
