Dr. Giovanni Zanalda, is currently director of the Duke University Center for International & Global Studies (DUCIGS) (August 2015-Present), of the John Hope Franklin Center (JHFC) (2015-Present), Faculty Co-Director of the Karsh International Scholars Program (2018-Present), Director of Graduate Studies for the Interdisciplinary European Studies graduate certificate program, Chair of the Global Priorities Committee (2019-20), and former director of the Asian/Pacific Studies Institute (APSI) (August 2015-December 2017).
Zanalda is an Associate Research Professor at Duke University in the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI), Department of Economics, and in the Department of History. He is an economic historian specialized in the history of the international economy, finance, and development. He teaches courses on financial crises, emerging markets, international economy (1850-present) for the Department of Economics, and on the history of globalization for the Sanford School of Public Policy and History Department. He served as a consultant in the Office of the Vice President, Development Economics and Chief Economist at the World Bank. He taught and conducted research and missions, in various European, Asian, and African countries in addition to Argentina and the United States.
