During a two-day event, from November 29-30th, the Conéctate Guate consortium (DCID, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation, Maya Health Alliance and Fundegua) officially launched the Actors Mapping platform⸺a platform which maps nutrition stakeholders and interventions in Guatemala. DCID’s very own Associate in Research, Estuardo Pineda, presented the quantitative and qualitative results of the platform. The event garnered over 100 attendees representing the Government of Guatemala, donor community, international and domestic non-governmental organizations, as well as the civil and private sector.
The map is a part of a larger project that intends to address chronic malnutrition in an integral way, aligning research, education and policy engagement. To do so, the project brings together faculty and researchers from DCID, and the World Food Policy Center, researchers, registered dietitians and nutritionists from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) , and graduate students from Duke University and other think tanks and universities around the world. Over a 10-month period, DCID conducted the mapping and completed an assessment to establish the steps needed to address chronic malnutrition in Central America.
On December 6th, the research team will be presenting the map to the Vice-President of Guatemala and the Cabinet members. If received favorably, the map will form the basis of a detailed strategy to eradicate chronic malnutrition in Guatemala. It is also envisioned that the map will serve as a model for neighboring countries in Central America that face similar challenges.To take a look at the interactive map, click here.
