Visiting Lecturer in the Sanford School of Public Policy
Anthony Elson is an International Economist, writer and university lecturer based in the Washington, DC area. For a number of years he was a senior staff member of the International Monetary Fund with responsibilities for managing the IMF's macroeconomic surveillance and program lending with a number of countries in the Asia Pacific and Latin American regions. For a time, he was also involved in the oversight of the IMF's global statistics operations and the initial development of its work on international standards and codes. Since leaving the Fund, Dr. Elson has been an economic consultant with the World Bank and other public and private organizations. In addition to his teaching at DCID, Dr. Elson has taught at the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies and at Yale University. Dr. Elson is the author of Governing Global Finance: The Evolution and Reform of the International Financial Architecture (Palgrave Macmillan 2011) and Globalization and Development: Why East Asia Surged Ahead and Latin America Fell Behind (Palgrave Macmillan 2013). Dr. Elson received his BA from Yale University and an MIA (School of International and Public Affairs) and PhD from Columbia University.
