Students in DCID-affiliated professor Dr. Tana Johnson's "Research in International Policy" class got hands-on experience with the difficult task of allocating grant money facing many foundations and organizations. Should funds go to established organizations with track records, or emerging ones who need an initial boost? What factors should grantors consider when deciding?
Through a Pedagogical Experimentation Grant from Duke’s Undergraduate Program Enhancement Fund, the class had $10,000 to award to local Durham nonprofits. Under Johnson's mentorship, the students deliberated between more than a dozen nonprofits, ultimately selecting three grantees.
